Good night sleep

Can’t seem to get a good night sleep anymore and dreading work the next day? You’ve heard it all before, drink milk, count sheep, take a sleep aid, but there must be other things you can try to get a good night sleep. The following are some alternative ways to sleep better at night:

Get lots of exercise in the day. How does this help? The more tired your body is, the more likely you’ll fall asleep. Exercise can help you get a good night sleep because your body compensates for the extra stress you’ve put on your body, increasing deep sleep at night.

Low impact exercises such as Pilates and Yoga are great. Try and avoid heavy lifting and pushing yourself too hard. Little and often is better than a hard workout once a week. Be careful not to exercise late in the evening. Excessively tired muscles will ache and likely to make sleep more difficult. Also, your body needs time to cool down and relax.

Exercise releases adrenaline, the spike in adrenaline can make you feel awake and alert. Exercising in the morning is great for kick-starting your day and helping you get a good night sleep. As well as being healthy for you physically, it can also help reduce stress and expel nasty toxins in your body.

Eating well is also important for a good night sleep. Your body needs good quality food to fuel it. Have a routine and eat at the same time everyday. Eat lots of fruit and vegetables and include as much raw food in your diet as possible. Keep a balanced ratio of carbs, protein and good fats. By eating healthily you will find that you have more energy.

Relaxation and especially deep relaxation is great for reducing stress and anxiety. Meditating on good thoughts can release endorphins that trigger good and happy feelings. Simply listening to soothing music daily can improve your mood and contribute to a good night sleep.
